Jack Briery, age 84, of Shreveport, LA, died on December 9, 2002, at the Spring Lake Guest Care, after a long battle with emphysema and other illness. He had been an Association member since 1981. He entered military service as a draftee in WW II, commissioned as a 2d Lt in the Army [1942] and transferred to the Army Air Corps [1943] and graduated as a pilot. Details of his WW II service are unknown. From 3/49 to 8/49, he participated in the Berlin Airlift; from 8/49 to 3/51 he was Chief of Operations, 917th AP Sq, Wiesbaden, GE; and served from 7/53 to 10/54 in Korea. From 11/54 to 8/70, he served with OSI. He had assignments in Dist 10 from 1954-1959; Det 7009, Munich, GE, as DetCo (1959-1960); Dep DistCmdr, DO 62, England (1960-1962); Dist 9 Chief CI Div (1962-1965); DO 50/CC, SVN (6/65-6/66); DO 44/CC (7/65-7/67); DO 13/CC (8/67-3/58); DO 18/CC (3/68-8/69); and DO 14/CC (9/69-8/70), when he retired from AD. Patrick William Carroll, age 66, of Spokane, WA, passed away December 3, 2000, of unreported cause. He had been an Association member since 1980. A published obituary reports he entered the USAF in 1957, graduated from pilot training in 1959 and was an aircrew member from 1959 to 1964 in SAC and MATS. He entered OSI in June 1964 and was a graduate of Class 64-I, Basic Investigators Course. His OSI assignments were at Travis AFB, CA; Hancock Field, NY; Manila, RP; Fairchild AFB, WA; Udorn AB, Thailand; and Scott AFB, IL, where he retired in November 1977. He also had an assignment at one time in the Criminal Investigations Division, HQ AFOSI. In civil life, he was Chief of Security for the Spokane School District 18 for 4 years following his retirement from AD, followed by 18 years as a mathematics teacher at Garry Middle School. Frank W. Dennis Jr., age 85, of Virginia Beach, VA., died October 8, 2002, at the Bay Lake Assisted Living facility in Virginia Beach. He suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. He had been an Association member since 1966. Details of his military service prior to OSI are unknown. He served with OSI from March 1950 to 31 July 1963, at which time he retired from active duty. He was a graduate of Class 50-H, Basic Investigators Course. His OSI assignments were: Det. 202, Mitchel AFB, LI (1950-Mar 52); OSI Dist 1 (USAFE), Wiesbaden, GE (Apr 52-Sep 53); OSI Dist 2, NYC (Oct 53-Jun 59); OSI Det. 7010, Rhein/Main AB, GE (Jul 59-Jul 62); and OSI Dist 2, NYC (Jul 62-Jul 63). In civil life, he was a teacher and guidance counselor with the Massapequa School System, Long Island, NY, from which he also retired. Javiar ‘Harv’ Escobar, of San Antonio, TX, died on November 2, 2002, at the National Institutes of Health Hospital, Bethesda, MD, following a 5-month long battle against cancer. He was not an Association member. Details of his military career are unknown. He was a graduate of Class 83-E, Basic Investigators Course, with extended tours in Korea, California, and Texas. At the time of his death, he was in transition between retiring from active duty and commencing employment as a civilian special agent. Survivors include his wife, Myrna, and three sons. Funeral services were held in San Antonio, TX, followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

John E. Hamilton, age 69, of Alamogordo, NM, died on January 14, 2003, of unreported causes in El Paso, TX. He had been an Association member since 1973. Association records reflect he entered the Air Force in 1951 and served as an Air Policeman until 1956 at Camp Gordon, GA; Pusan, Korea; Beale AFB, CA; and Ethan Allen AFB, VT. He was a graduate of the Basic Investigators Course 56-D. His AFOSI assignments were: DO 22 [Detachment], Niagara Falls, NY (56-56); DO 22, Rochester, NY (56-59); DO 45, Pusan/Osan, SK (59-60); DO 1, Pease AFB, NY (60-63); DO 46, Yokota AB, Japan (63-66); and DO 2, Stewart AFB, NY (66-71). In civil life, he was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co, at Lowell and Saugus, ME, as a security manager (71-73); HUD, Office of Inspector General, Boston, MA, as a criminal investigator (73-82); and DIS, Portsmouth, NH, as a special agent (82-95). His wife, Theresa, predeceased him in 1999. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Darlene Nelson, and 4 grandchildren of Alamogordo, NM. Funeral services and burial were in Epping, NH.

Katsumi ‘Pat’ Kusumi, age 78, of Bellevue, WA, died on November 4, 2002, of unreported causes. He had been ill for some period of time. He became a Life Member of the Association in 1987. From 1946 to 1948, he was employed at the Headquarters Intelligence Detachment, 7th U. S. Army. From 1949 to 1971, he was employed at FEAF OSI District 3 [later OSI District 43] as a language technician. In 1971, he graduated from the Basic Investigators Course, Class 71-B, and continued his employment at OSI District 43, and OSI Detachment 4607, as a Special Agent from 1971 to 1986, when he retired. Arthur A. Martens, age 81, of Mount Vernon, MO, passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home, on an unreported date of unknown causes. He had been an Association member since 1984. Full details of his military service are unknown, although he apparently entered active duty ca. 1940. He attended the CIC School, Fort Holibird, MD (Jun – Aug 1946) and was assigned to CIC Det., Chicago, IL (9/46-4/47), and CIC Det., Neubiberg, Germany (702nd AF CIC, Team #4)(6/47-1948). His OSI assignments were: OSI Det., Neubiberg AB, GE (1948); OSI Det (Team #18), Landsberg/Lech, GE (1949); OSI Dist. 13, Offutt AFB, NE (7/50-11/53); DO 13 Det., Kansas City, MO (11/53-1954); OSI USAFE Dist. 1, Landstuhl AB, GE (1954-1956); and OSI Det. 1305, Lincoln AFB, NE (1956-9/58). He left OSI for an assignment at 806th AB Group, Lake Charles, LA, where he retired from active duty July 1960. Survivors are unknown.

Patrick J. O'Hare, age 69, of Sacramento, CA., passed away there on October 13, 2002. He had been an Association member since 1988. He served two years of active duty in the USAF, then became an OSI reservist assigned to Detachment 1905, McClelland AFB, CA, (1961-1968) at which time he retired from the AF Reserve.. In civil life, he was initially a Deputy Sheriff in Sacramento, spent 13 years in the California Highway Patrol, and then became a Special Agent for the California Dept. of Justice, from which he retired in May 1987. He was a private investigator (O’Hare Investigative Services) until his death. He is survived by his wife Joan, seven children, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Thomas ‘Tom’ Privett, age 69, of Alexandria, VA, was reported as having passed away on an unspecified date. He had been an Association member since 1988. Victor M. Wode, age 66, of Cloverdale, CA, died on October 2, 2002, following a stroke. He had been an Association member since 1991. In civil life, he was a San Francisco (CA) Police Department Sgt. He became an OSI Reservist in 1979, completing the OSI Reserve Basic Course in Class 79-A. His OSI assignments were: Detachment 1910, Treasure Island, San Francisco (79-88); District 19 HQ, Travis AFB, CA, as IMA to the Chief, Criminal Inves (88-89); and HQ AFOSI, Bolling AFB, DC, as IMA to SEA (89-Unknown date).
