Ronald Lee Brown, age 76, of Melbourne, FL, died on September 10, 2002, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. He was not an Association member.
He served in the Air Force for over 27 years. He served with OSI in Washington DC (66-68), OSI Vietnam (68–69), OSI Washington (70–71), and OSI Dist 13 Offutt AFB, NE (1971). He was with DIS Denver (72–73) and DIS Hawaii (74-75) as Cmdr Pacific Region.
He is survived by his wife, Betty A. Brown, two daughters and a grandson.
Funeral services were in Melbourne on September 13, 2002.

William B. Dyer, age 63, of Bloomsburg, PA, died Aug. 13, 2002, at the Bloomsburg Hospital of unreported causes. He had been an Association member since 1979. He was a graduate of Class 64-D, Basic Investigators School.
His initial military service was in the Naval Air Reserve, NAS Anacostia DC (06/56-07/57). In July 1957, he joined the USAF, became a firefighter and served at Gray AFB, TX; Kindley AB, Bermuda; and Malmstrom AFB, MT until March 1964. He entered OSI at District 15, Malmstrom AFB, MT (3/64-6/65). Other assignments included Det 2204, Scotia, NY (6/65-6/67); Univ of Omaha (NE) in Bootstrap Program (6/67-6/68); OTS Lackland AFB, TX (8/68-11/68); DetCo, Det 803, Craig AFB, AL (12/68-1/70); DetCo, Det 4503, Kwang Ju AB, ROK (1/70-2/71); HQ AFOSI/IVOE, Washington, DC (3/71-8/74); DetCo, TUSLOG Det 42, Izmir, Turkey (8/74-2/77); and DetCo, Det 2104, Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC (3/77-9/79); at which time he retired from the USAF.
Following his retirement, he was employed as Supervisor of Security Services for the Pennsylvania Power and Light for 16 years.

Funeral services were held on August 16, 2002 with interment following in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, PA.

Kenneth A. ‘Ken’ Hassen, of Valencia, CA, died unexpectedly at home on September 23, 2002, of cancer, while awaiting surgery. He was not an Association member.
A graduate of the Air Force Academy, full details of his military career are not known. He was a graduate of Class 70-G, Basic Investigators Course. Among his known assignments were AFOSI Det 6904, Teheran, Iran (ca. 1973-1976); HQ AFOSI/IVOS, Washington, DC; two tours with AFOSI/PJ with an intervening assignment as OSI Det/CC at Lakenheath/Mildenhall, England. Following retirement from the USAF, he was employed with Lockheed Martin at Palmdale, CA, until he retired again due to medical reasons in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, who can be reached at: Mrs. Ken (K'dee) Hassen, 23633 Sunderland Court, Valencia, CA 91354.

Robert H. Rannells, age 81, of Manassas, VA, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at Annaburg Manor in Manassas, VA. He had contended with the ravages of a muscular disease [long thought to be Lou Gehrig’s Disease but later identified as Duchenne muscular dystrophy] for more than 20 years. He joined the Association as member #111-RG in 1966.
His military service included the following: WVA National Guard (1938-1941); 201st Infantry Res. (1/41-11/42); USAAF (12/42-9/45); 1001st IG Unit, USAAF/USAF (5/47-4/50). He transferred to OSI Dist. 5 in April 1950 and remained there until November 1951. His other assignments were: OSI Caribbean Air Command, Albrook Field, PN (12/51-12/54); OSI Dist. 18 (12/54-12/59); Det. 7010, Rhein/Main AB, GE (1/60-1/63); and OSI Dist. 24, Chicago, IL (2/63-9/66), where he retired from the USAF.
In civil life, he worked briefly for the Civil Service Commission in Chicago as an investigator, and then was employed as a Security Supervisor-Loss Prevention Mgr in Matteson, IL, from 1967 to 1974. He worked from 1974 to 1984 with the US Postal Service at Inwood, WV, until his physical condition forced him into full retirement. In 1999, he and his wife, Josephine, moved to Manassas, VA, to reside with their son, Charles and family.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine, three sons and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Condolences will reach Mrs. Josephine “Jo” Rannells at 8924 Longstreet Drive, Manassas, VA 20110.
Funeral services were held on September 9, 2002 at Inwood, WV, followed by interment there.

Ovid Paul Boyette, 72, of St. Petersburg, FL, died of heart complications on April 25, 2002 at Carrington Place Convalescent Center, St. Petersburg. He had been an Association member since 1982.
Details of his military career are unknown. It is not known either when he entered OSI. He is believed to be a graduate of Class 53-C of the Basic Investigators Course. He reported assignments in District Offices 4, 5, 6, 6 (FEAF), 7, 21, and 50.  The date of his retirement from the USAF is unknown.
In civil life, he was employed as a fingerprint technician by the St. Petersburg (FL) Police Department for 29 years, retiring in 2000.

William T. "Bill" Brunette, age 79, of San Antonio, TX, died of a heart attack at home on June 29, 2002. He had been an Association member since 1974.
During WW II, he served from Oct 1942 to Mar 1946 in the Army Air Force with the Air Transport Command, with assignments in Morocco, Brazil and the US. In 1949, he graduated from the USAF OCS and entered OSI. His OSI assignments were as follows: Dist 10 (Jul 50); Dist 18 (Aug 50 - Dec 51); Dist 6 (USAFE) (Dec 51 - Nov 54); Det 1702, Clovis AFB NM (Nov 54 - Jul 58); Det 1705, Luke AFB, AZ (Jul 58 - Feb 60); AFIT Student, Washington State Univ (Feb 60 - Jun 61); Dist 68, Madrid, SP (Jun 61 - Aug 64); OSI HQ, Washington, DC (Aug 64 - Aug 66); Dist 21, Langley AFB, VA (Aug 66 - May 68); Dist 30 Howard AFB, PN (May 68 - Jun 70); Dist 5 W-P AFB, OH (Jun 70 - Jul 72); Dist 10 San Antonio, TX (Jul 72 - Dec 74), at which time he retired from AD. He was a graduate of Class 51-D, Basic Investigators Course.
In civil life, he worked in real estate for an unknown period.

Funeral Services were in San Antonio. Cremated remains were inurned at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Donald R. Childs, age 70, of South Vienna, OH, died on December 18, 2001, of unreported causes. He had been an Association member since 1983.
Details of his military career prior to entering OSI in 1961 are not known. He was an administrator during his OSI career with the following assignments: DO 14, Lowry AFB, CO (Aug 1961-Mar 1964); DO 45, South Korea (Mar 64-Apr 65); DO 14, Lowry AFB, CO (Apr 65-Jul 68); DO 5, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH (Jul 68-Jan 71); DO 62, England (Jan 71-Sep75); and DO 5, W-P AFB (Sep 75-Aug 76), when he retired.
In civil life, he worked for a school district in Springfield, OH, as a bus driver.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Wilma Childs, R2, 10960 Collins-ARB, South Vienna, OH 45369.

Vincent J. ‘Budd’ Donahue, age 84, of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away on July 10, 2002. He had been ill for some time. He was not an Association member.
He entered the Army Air Corps in March 1940 and served throughout World War II. For two years after WW II, he was a pilot for Eastern Airlines.  He returned to active duty and completed 30 years service with the USAF. He entered OSI, circa 1959 [a graduate of Class 59-D, Basic Investigators Course]. He was the District Commander, OSI District 8 sometime in 1960s. A published obituary reported he had assignments during his active duty career in California, Texas, Ohio, South Pacific, Alabama, Germany, and Washington, DC. Reportedly, he had accumulated over 30,000 hours of accident-free flying.
Following his retirement, he was for 20 years the Director of Security, Air Force Eastern Missile Test Range, Cape Kennedy AFS and Patrick AFB, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 7 Willow Green Dr, Cocoa Beach, FL 32941.
A memorial service was held in Cocoa Beach, FL, July 13, 2000..

Richard S. Gibble, 84, of Sterling, VA, died of cancer April 6, 2002 at Reston  [VA] Hospital Center. He was not an Association member.
In the mid-1930s, he served several years in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in PA. In 1942, he entered the Army Air Force. Details of his WW II service are not known. In 1946/47, he was the First Sergeant of a Polish Guard (DP) unit in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1948, he was probably the first enlisted administrative member assigned to the 1005th IG Special Investigations Unit, Bolling AFB, DC, on its activation. He served as the Personnel Sergeant Major of the 1005th IG SIU for several years.
He graduated from Class 50-G of the Basic Investigators Course and transferred to OSI District 20. He was appointed a Warrant Officer and served several tours in Germany, as well as Japan and at HQ AFOSI in the Counterintelligence Division. He retired from AD in 1972. After a short period of interim commercial employment in the Washington (DC) area, he returned to HQ AFOSI as a civilian agent [counterintelligence supervisor] retiring again in 1984.

Paul Mills Hammersten, age 64, of Kenner, LA, died June 21 2002, of respiratory failure having been in poor health for some time. He was a former Association member.
He was a retired US customs agent having worked for the Customs Service for 25 years, retiring in 1989. He also retired from the AFOSI Reserve Program having served for three years on active duty and 24 years in the reserve; primarily at OSI District 8, Maxwell AFB, AL.
Survivors include three daughters and a grandson.
A memorial service was held in St. Paul, MN on July 2, 2002. Burial was private.

Robert ‘Bob’ Inman, age 75, of Lorton, VA, died at home on April 11, 2002, following a long illness with cancer.
He was not an Association member. Details of his military career in the USAF are not known, other than he served as the Administrative Officer at OSI Dist 42, Republic of Philippines, from 1962 to 1964. A published obituary reports he served 26 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1968. Prior to and after his retirement, he was active in real estate in his own and other firms before retiring in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Donna Inman, daughter Terry Inman and sons, Jeffrey and Rod Inman. Condolences will reach the family at: 10710 Anita Drive, Lorton, Virginia 22079-3523.
Funeral services were held in Alexandria, VA, with interment following at Arlington National Cemetery.
