Scholarship Awards

Background

Past History

  • Established 1981.
  • Approved as IRS 503c(3) organization in Feb 1983.

Contributions Source

  • The first 3 scholarships were awarded in 1983. By CY 2002, 79 young men and women had been awarded a total of $98,500.
  • Current Association members.
  • Non-members are not solicited as the Association is not registered as a charity in those states requiring registration and filing of financial statements.

Contribution Types

  • Scholarships - Most contributions are to support the scholarship program.
  • Memorials - Contributions may be made in memory of an individual and will be added to the Scholarship Fund; unless the contributor designates otherwise and the Board of Directors approves the conditions of the gift.

Make A Contribution

Administration

  • The general administrative costs of the Fund are paid from regular Association funds.
  • The fund administrator and Chairman of the Scholarship Awards Committee is Charles P (Chuck) Azukas.
  • The number and dollar amounts of any awards will depend upon the resources available to the Association at the time the awards are made, usually in the Spring of the year.
  • The Association reserves the right to withhold any or all awards in a given year.

Definitions

  • The Association and the Fund work on the Fiscal Year (FY).
  • Awarding of Scholarships is timed to the Academic Year (AY).

Eligibility for Awards: Eligibility for awards is established in Article VII, Section 2, of the Association Bylaws, as follows:

  • Scholarship Awards will be made to deserving and outstanding students who are dependents, grandchildren or great grandchildren of active Association members (to include the dependents or descendants of those individuals who were members at the time of their demise) to pursue college level educations.
  • High school seniors and undergraduate college students are eligible to apply for such awards, as are outstanding undergraduate scholars who have been recipients of AFOSISA scholarship awards in prior years.

When To Apply

  • Applications and related papers must reach the Chairman, Scholarship Awards Committee by April 15th of each year for the AY commencing in September.
  • NOTE: One of the related papers is a theme prepared by the applicant on a subject that changes from year to year. The subject of the theme, as well as all details and the application form appear in the Winter (January) edition of the Global Alliance each year.
